A Day in the Life
Each 4th grade student learned how to use a digital camera, manipulate images on a computer, construct a hand-made 10-page book using photos they took, and engage in creative writing to interpret their images. Instruction included the history of photography, how to make a camera obscura, and digital camera care.
Students first learned to use digital cameras at school under supervision, and wrote poems about some of their images. Students were then allowed to take cameras home to photograph his/her family, surroundings, and activities in order to capture a visual documentary of personal identity. OFFTA funds provided for the digital cameras and media cards—which will be used for future classes—as well as supplies, film and photo printers for the program.
