Project Description

Arrow-Soul: “Semiotics & Traditional Writing Culture”

For the Arrow-Soul Writing Class at Oasis, students studied and created their own art in response to three themes: Symbols; Letters; and Murals. Students developed lettering skills through a series of activities that traced the evolution of the writing movement from calligraphy to outline.

In 2007, students used their individual skills to reflect on a variety of social justice themes, and produced their own personal styles and artwork using various media. They also participated in the installation and display of their pieces on campus, a Borders Bookstore, and Oakland Museum.
