Berkeley Rep: Story Builders/Performance Lab
OFFTA funded 100 hours of free arts education programming to Oakland students through Berkeley Rep School of Theatre’s Story Builders and Performance Lab workshops. Story Builders integrated music, performance, visuals and writing into story telling, and encouraged students to participate in the world of a story.
The aim of the 10-hour Story Builder workshop was to increase the literacy skills of K-5 students, including their writing, critical thinking and team-work. Performance Lab worked with middle and high-school students to create plays with a particular topic or theme, such as a novel, historical period or current event.
The children learned creative writing, public speaking and critical thinking. The workshop culminated in a final performance.
