Congolese Dance and Visual Arts
The Congolese Dance and Visual Arts program at EnCompass Academy taught African dance, music and language arts through poetry to K-5 students. The program introduced Congolese dance, drum, and song, traditional art forms rooted in the rituals of Central Africa that reflect the rich cultural legacy of descendants of the Kongo Kingdom.
The kids learned Congolese vocabulary related to traditional movements, songs and language, as well as historical context and traditional values related to African culture. The program built confidence, self-esteem, pride, vocal and stage presence of participants, and bridged language arts with music/dance through oral stories and visuals.
