Discovery Art helped students and their parents learn about artists and explore their own talents as artists using various media. A core group of children attended weekly while others dropped in on Fridays. At Korematsu Discovery Academy and Manzanita SEED, 3rd through 5th graders discovered themselves as artists while discovering art and artists from around the world.
Kids and parents also attended field trips to the de Young Musuem, SF Musuem of Modern Art (MOMA) and the Oakland Museum of California History. An ongoing exhibition at the school highlighted students’ works.
With OFFTA (AOK) funds, students learned to use the Internet and various visual arts media to express themselves and to appreciate different world cultures. Vocabulary, science, and math skills were incorporated.
