The Junior Center’s Sharing Our Stories program is a visual arts and writing program that provides arts literacy and art history lessons to help students find influences from their own identity that they can express within their own works. Learning about contemporary artists from a diverse array of ethnic backgrounds and mediums provides a reference point for the students’ work. As part of the program, students develop a personal narrative and reflect on their family, cultural history, and identity. Teaching methods include storytelling, observation and analysis, as well as hands on skill building. The students create unique narratives with artworks that are displayed in an exhibition at the school and at the Junior Center.
