Project Description

Luna Dance

The Luna Dance taught children to explore self control, body awareness, locomotion, body part differentiation, tempo, and range of movement while improvising with the elements of dance—space, energy and time. The classes met the California VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) standards, as well as the national dance “create, perform, respond” standards.

In 2017, the Luna Dance Institute teaching artist Deborah Karp partnered with Grass Valley Elementary to provide weekly dance classes for K-5 students with and without Special Needs. All classes school-wide participated in Inclusion Dance Classes (IDC), in which students in General and Special Education come together to dance in order to build a school culture of empathy, collaboration and creativity across abilities.
