The Crucible: Integrated Industrial Arts Education
at McClymonds High School
Funded in Partnership with Sally Landis and Michael White
The Crucible, an industrial arts maker-space in West Oakland, and McClymonds High School are moving into the third year of their partnership, providing 3,000 hours of bike mechanics, welding, ceramics, textiles and leatherworking, glass fusing and slumping, foundry, and jewelry and metalsmithing to 25 McClymonds students. Students build tangible skills, explore their artistic expression, and experience a professional working environment with high-end industrial tools and equipment. This program builds a path to further out-of-school arts education and potential employment.
