AOK Stomper
It being the 50th Anniversary of the Oakland A’s, it is only appropriate that Stomper wears a suit and a bow tie. I wanted the illustrative design of his suit to reflect a child-like nature and our mission within Arts For Oakland Kids. Elements were included to highlight whimsical aspects of music, theater, and the arts while celebrating the true spirit of baseball season!

Oakland A’s Stomper AOK Style!

You’ve probably noticed the giant, colorful elephants popping up all around town. That’s because it’s the Oakland A’s 50th anniversary in “The Town!” To celebrate, they commissioned a public art event featuring 50 life-size statues of the lovable A’s mascot “Stomper.” Local artists have transformed the statues into unique works of art. One of those talented artists is AOK’s very own board director Kelly Autumn, who created “A Show of Hands” in honor of Arts for Oakland Kids.

Kelly has served on AOK’s board since 2016. She is a Northern California-based artist and designer whose work is inspired by her love of vintage children’s books and other folk ephemera. For Kelly’s unique Stomper design, she featured over 300 children’s handprints, most of which were produced by students from one of our arts education programs at Achieve Academy in Fruitvale. As a special surprise for being part of this work of art, the kids got a visit from Stomper himself!

Kelly’s Stomper was proudly installed in front of the historic Grand Lake Theater in the Lakeshore district last month. Learn more about Kelly’s vision and see more pictures of her process at kellyautumn.com.
